Mullins and White Exploration, Inc. became a realized dream in 1996 when two family members latched on to an opportunity.
Martin White had been working as an oil and gas asset broker for several years. He quickly discovered his natural talent in the industry, and became thirsty for greater opportunities.
Rick Mullins was working as a technical editor at a legal and regulatory publisher of oil and gas law. His background consisted of an MBA, CPA, and Law degree, all of which revolving around the energy industry.
In July 1996, White approached his cousin with and idea for an E&P company, that today has become more than either of them could have ever envisioned.
Wary at first, Mullins agreed to White’s proposal, but held fast to his job as a technical editor. The cousins began with small, low-risk deals. They kept their focus aimed at shallow wells in Texas, where Mullins felt comfortable with his knowledge of oil and gas law.
In 2000 everything changed. Mullins and White planted the seeds of change through networking at their first ever visit to NAPE. One thing led to another and before they knew it the cousins had made a deal for 2,300 acres in north central Texas.
They were drilling deeper wells and holding onto a higher working interest than ever before. But this risky move paid off. The third well they drilled was producing 60 and 70 barrels of oil per day. This was when Mullins’ reservations about the potential of the company disappeared.
Today Mullins and White Exploration, Inc. owns positions in more than 10 states, employs more than 50 people, and continues to grow at an almost exponential rate.
